DUAL DESTINIES
Oct. 24th, 2013 03:48 pmOH MY GOD, DUAL DESTINIES. DUAL DESTINIES DUAL DESTINIES DUAL DESTINIES. OH MY GOD.
I HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED PLAYING IT YET AND ALREADY I LOVE IT. THE MENU IMAGE! IT IS A LITTLE REVOLVING 3D MODEL WITH TINY 3D PHOENIX IN HIS OFFICE ON ONE SIDE AND TINY LITTLE APOLLO AND THE GIRL WHOSE NAME I DON'T KNOW YET IN COURT ON THE OTHER! I LOVE EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING IS THE BEST.
( I WILL STOP CAPSLOCKING NOW )

Mar. 22nd, 2012 04:18 pmI am finally watching these 30 Rock DVDs I bought on Black Friday. The first season is so amazing, but am I crazy or is the second season not that great? The writing is amateurish and nonsensical, rather than the delicate balance of over-the-top eccentricity and heartfelt realism* that I have come to expect after the first season. I had such high hopes for the second season, too, after its first episode. "Things have been said that can never be taken back. She called my vanity license plate 'inscrutable'!" Oh god, it doesn't stop being funny. Anyway, I'm hoping it's just a temporary (writers' strike?) thing and the later seasons are better.
The new Homestuck album had better come out soon. I mean, you know, whenever. I certainly haven't been checking the Bandcamp page and Andrew Hussie's tumblr and twitter multiple times a day in addition to the MSPA main page or anything. Oh god I am so overinvested in this soundtrack. Homestuck music, why must you be so good?*
I can't decide whether I hope Emissary of Wind and/or Joker Strife (from Land of Fans and Music) are on the album or not. On the one hand, if they aren't, that means more new music for me to listen to. On the other hand, I desperately want the people who wrote them to have my money. (The same is also true of Growin' Up Strider and, to a lesser extent, MeGaDanceVaNia, but those aren't about a single character and therefore won't be on the album, plus they remix existing music so the composers wouldn't get as much of my money.)
*Coincidentally, this is the same thing I love most about Ace Attorney, especially in Trials and Tribulations.

Attention Everyone!
Feb. 1st, 2012 12:20 amThe Phoenix Wright live action movie is going to be localized!!!!!!!
Even the tiny Edgeworths in my icon are excited. As you can see, they are already jostling each other to be the first in line to buy tickets, and for good reason. Do you know what this means? Sometime in the not-too-distant future, I will be able to own the Phoenix Wright live action movie on DVD, and then I will be able to watch it whenever I want. Skype Movie Nights! Cake-baking background noise! I am not exaggerating when I say that I think this might change my life.
Real life stuff: man, I am beat. I went to give blood today and ended up doing my first double red cell donation. Have any of you ever done this? It is SO. COOL. They take your blood out, spin it in a centrifuge, and then PUT IT BACK IN. You get to watch a bag fill up with your plasma, which looks like light beer, especially with its foamy head that I think is from the centrifuge? I asked the guy about it and he said he'd never gotten a straight answer himself on what it is. Then when the plasma goes back in it's got some saline solution that comes with it that makes your (or at least my) mouth go cold, like you've been eating ice cream, and your lips tingle. Anyway, according to that site I linked, it's supposed to leave you feeling better than a whole blood donation, but I sure as hell didn't feel better than I usually do. Actually, I'm still pretty fatigued, but I think that's probably because I went to the gym after work, even though the little information sheet I got specifically instructed me not to. In my defense, the alternative was not going back to the gym until my training session on Thursday, triggering the mysterious weightlifting-related hypoglycemia that can strike LITERALLY ANY TIME that I am lifting weights but ALWAYS comes to visit when I go more than two days between workouts, and possibly finally finding out what it feels like to lose consciousness in front of dozens of people.
I have been hard at work on my house, at least when I come home feeling something besides exhaustion, so not really very much at all. Having to take Monday off from work just to force myself to run business-hours-only errands and put most of my kitchen away has not been one of my proudest moments. I have, however, figured out what to do about most of the rooms I'm planning to redecorate. There is a lot to do, especially for an extremely lazy n00b like me, but I think it will all work out in the end.

Nov. 18th, 2010 09:02 pmHere is a promotional picture and screencap of the dude in Ace Attorney Investigations 2 (squee!) who teaches the player about the new, chess-inspired logic system: ( Click to see. )
Apparently he's...the president's bodyguard? According to Court Records, at least. And he's an expert marksman, and chess is a hobby of his.
So, to recap:
-Light-colored, unruly hair
-Good at chess
-Gryffindor scarf
HOLY CRAP, RON WEASLEY IS IN ACE ATTORNEY INVESTIGATIONS 2.

Oct. 20th, 2010 01:07 amI'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs and worrying, for like the thirtieth day in a row, about what my next livejournal post is going to be about. "I have so much to talk about!" I think. "But I haven't updated in forever and that's always so awkward because then I feel like I have to be epic and cover everything, and what if I leave something out? Then I'll feel like I was rude to the thing I left out! And what if I don't leave anything out but the post is like eighty thousand words long, I mean, nobody's going to read that. And it's not like I'm going to spam people with eighty thousand-word posts. Or a thousand eighty-word posts. Or, wait, what are some other factor pairs of eighty thousand? Let me get a pen."
Luckily, as has happened eventually every time I go for awhile without posting, something comes along to make me decide that I can wait no longer. In this case: the really-real-for-serious yes-this-is-actually-happening announcement of an Ace Attorney/Professor Layton crossover game. Well, having two people contact me independently to make sure I knew about it was what made me decide to post, if you want to get technical. But still.
Okay, so, let's not kid ourselves here. I'm going to buy this. Probably on the day of release if I don't preorder it. If I can't afford a 3DS before it comes out, I'll buy it anyway and wait to play it until I can.
But
but
...
Not sure if want.
Maybe I just...don't know what to think? I dunno, I feel like I should be going to bars and buying everyone a round of drinks in celebration, but...not sure. It feels kinda exploitative? Okay, rephrase. I know it's exploitative. And exploitative doesn't necessarily mean evil, and it certainly doesn't necessarily mean bad, especially if Shu Takumi is actually writing it, but but but the styles! Gameplay, plot, tone, art! They're so different! What if, what if they don't actually combine well? What if they make no sense? What if...it's just not a very good game?
I guess I'll find out when I play it. Which I will. Sooner or later. Probably sooner.
I do expect the music to be amazing, though.

Holy crap!
May. 30th, 2010 08:23 pmSo I'm replaying Ace Attorney Investigations, and in the scene near the end of the third case right after ( spoilers. )
I am becoming unhinged
Apr. 29th, 2010 12:14 amSo you know how apparently I just can't stop thinking about and looking at people's lapels, because it's like my life now or something? Well, I went over to Court Records just now to use it in an online discussion for another class, and while I was there, I thought I'd look through the sprites, just to see where all the peaked lapels were.
Holy shit, just look at this list:
( Spoilers for every game except T&T, randomly )
Arrrrrgh the more I think about this the more I feel like I have to say on the matter, but it's late and I need to make this discussion post and then go to bed. So!

Team Dessert!
Apr. 6th, 2010 11:17 pmIn a glorious, creamy compromise, Cheesecake was crowned the victor of the Cake vs. Pie Championship at 3:30 p.m. EDT today. Time permitting, its light, tangy scent will soon permeate the air of this apartment, this recipe attesting to the secret of its triumph. But truly the victory belongs to Team Dessert, whose loyalties only to delicious, sugary sweets serve as a reminder that no matter which food gets the most votes, everybody wins.
Also of note in that post: I became an approved commenter! I finally got off my ass the other day and registered an account. My name: LogicButton.

Oh, yes.

Apr. 3rd, 2010 08:54 pmSo when I was playing case 5 of AAI, I was thinking, gosh, who does this sprite of Palaeno's remind me of?

AND THEN I REALIZED.

So of course I wanted to take this to its logical conclusion, but I wasn't sure what the best way to go about it would be...until April Fool's Day on Thursday.

Mar. 17th, 2010 11:51 pmThis game. THIS GAME.
This game here, everyone, exceeded EVERY ONE of my expectations. I can't even begin to articulate how much I loved it. It was wonderful. Absolutely wonderful.
I mean, as you know, I am pretty much willing to embrace anything that says "Ace Attorney" on it. Lord knows I wouldn't have bought two volumes of those terrible, terrible doujinshi collections otherwise. I would have enjoyed this game even if it were just kinda eh. But did Capcom take advantage of that? No. No, they did not.
I would go so far as to say that this is the best Ace Attorney game to date. Yes, I think I would say that.
But there will be plenty of time in the future to talk about that. For now, here's my commentary on the final case.

I dunno, I don't really have much to say about this chapter ( other than that... )
The Viz translations are back to a six-month release schedule. Nooooo! But I guess I won't mind having new FMA to look forward to after June.
I'm going to try to finish Ace Attorney Investigations today, but definitely sometime this week. (Spring break wooo) Right now I'm on Middle, Part 3 of case 5. It's so damn good. So. Damn. Good.
