I've just watched episode 12 of Death Note, and the people who draw and animate Light and L are fired. On the other hand, the thing with Jealous was like three million times sadder and more touching than in the manga. I think it was his voice. Also, Rem was simultaneously stoic and highly expressive in this episode, which really impressed me.

L is more afraid of shinigami than I previously realized. Like seriously, I was all, "wait a minute, are we skipping ahead or something?"

Another opinion I hold: Light continues to spend far too much time talking and far too little being naked onscreen.

Hey, while I'm at it, I'm going to tell y'all about the OST. What I think of the OST )

So I hear Death Note's been licensed, but the Anime News Service isn't saying who the lucky company is, leaving that to fan speculation.

On the one hand, I don't really care. On the other hand, I kind of hope it's FUNimation, because there's this little game I've come up with called "Who Will Chris Sabat Play?" On the first hand, though, I can't think of anybody I'd like to see Chris Sabat play. Oh noes! Perhaps it is time to make up a new game. Who Will Travis Willingham Play?

I do hope those rumors of an American movie remake get confirmed at some point. I would love to see what they name Light. Preferably something as subtle as Light Yagami, like maybe Godfrey Killingmachine Godwin. As an added bonus, given Ohba's taste in names, that one would be sure to get the thumbs up from the original creator.

Edit: Why did the comments screen automatically? Livejournal is weird.

Hay [livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue, I made you an icon.

You don't have to use it, of course, and anybody else is free to. But I thought of you when I made it. Or, more accurately, when it made itself, because COME ON.

Soon, all my icons will feature Hawkeye being awesome and Light being crazy.

Happy FMA day! 3.10, and don't you forget it.

And now, the part of this post where I talk about the first episode of Death Note. I got about five seconds into the opening credits and realized that I was going to require a squee partner, a role that [livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue was happy to fulfill.

So, okay, it's all pretty awesome. There's a lot of dialogue and a lot of thinking out loud and just generally a lot of stuff that probably takes away from the show as a whole if you don't know the language they're speaking in. (Kawy: "They need to get to the action sequences." Me: "You've never read Death Note, have you?" Kawy: "...crap.") There is one pretty adorable moment when Ryuk scarfs down like three apples whole, but overall the episode holds off on the truly awesome until one of the final scenes, which I will describe using helpful visual aids.

Light is kind of a gigantic drama queen. )
