Oct. 3rd, 2006 09:38 pmHappy FMA day! 3.10, and don't you forget it.
And now, the part of this post where I talk about the first episode of Death Note. I got about five seconds into the opening credits and realized that I was going to require a squee partner, a role that
octopedingenue was happy to fulfill.
So, okay, it's all pretty awesome. There's a lot of dialogue and a lot of thinking out loud and just generally a lot of stuff that probably takes away from the show as a whole if you don't know the language they're speaking in. (Kawy: "They need to get to the action sequences." Me: "You've never read Death Note, have you?" Kawy: "...crap.") There is one pretty adorable moment when Ryuk scarfs down like three apples whole, but overall the episode holds off on the truly awesome until one of the final scenes, which I will describe using helpful visual aids.
"Should I do it?"

"Yes. Yes, I should. I think I will."

AND HE'S OFF

Look at him go!

In between these shots, we see scenes of imprisoned criminals dropping dead almost as dramatically as Light is writing their names.

Our favorite screencap ever. The best part is thesparkles beads of sweat dramatically catching the light as they fly dramatically through the air sparkles.

As his right hand finishes writing a name, his left arm prepares to flail.

I swear, he is going to give himself whiplash. Or perhaps this is just fanservice for neck fetishists. Mmm, objectifying Light.

Finally, just in case you were having trouble understanding the seriousness of this business, four frames in one.

And then we get about ten seconds of Light slumped in his chair, panting and clearly exhausted. Maybe if he didn't end every name with a huge arm-waving flourish he wouldn't be so damn tired. But I guess he's still Baby Kira, new to the whole surreptitiousness thing. Aww, Baby Kira.
