Saiyuki in the subject line
Mar. 22nd, 2006 12:05 amApparently it's International Saiyuki Week.
octopedingenue said so, so it must be true. And I like her, so I'll go with it.
When I think of Saiyuki, the first thing that comes to mind is that time when I skimmed like six volumes of it in the bookstore to find the part Kawy wanted me to see, something about how Gojyo and Hakkai were totally married, I think, or some such quasicanonical nonsense. The skimming was just thorough enough that I decided to count it as "reading," which is probably why I don't remember Yaone.
The second thing that comes to mind is the pretty, pretty cover art. I also think of the German editions--at 10€ each, Saiyuki was among the most expensive manga I found in Freiburg, which I imagine was mostly due to its larger page dimensions. However, and it's possible that I'm on crack and remembering incorrectly, but I also seem to remember that the covers were even nicer than those on the American editions. Not bad at all. I asked Kawy if she wanted me to get her any, as they really were lovely and in a spiffy foreign language that she doesn't read, but she declined, though in recent weeks has expressed regret that she had done so. It was probably for the best, considering the state of my luggage when I left Freiburg.
Finally, I would like to state for the record that Gojyo and Hakkai are, in fact, so totally married, but you knew that already. Or you probably don't care. If you would like to participate in International Saiyuki Week, feel free to post about Saiyuki (with a Saiyuki icon, of course) and make Kawy happy.
I don't have any Saiyuki icons myself, so Kawy will just have to settle for the monkey-related one. Two degrees of separation isn't bad. On that note, if anybody wants Goku to cater a wedding, you can tell them I'm for it.
