Me vs. Grad School Applications Round One
Nov. 29th, 2005 06:54 pmHey
weltreisender, I'm applying to the University of Minnesota.
...
This "diversity" thing they go on about kind of worries me.
The Graduate School embraces the University of Minnesota’s position that promoting and supporting diversity among the student body is central to the academic mission of the University. We define diversity to encompass many characteristics including economic disadvantage, special talents, evidence of leadership qualities, race or ethnicity, a strong work record, and disability. We invite you to provide a statement regarding how you will contribute to diversity in the Graduate School.
So do all schools do that, I wonder? Not that it's such a huge deal, I suppose. It's just...there's some irony there, that Minnesota is going to be judging me based on diversity, and that I can not win, because honestly Minnesota does not need any more German/Norwegian hybrids. It's why I fit in so well to begin with.
UNL's math department page makes me happy on a number of math-nerdy levels. They have an application timeline with points given in terms of t (t=time) so that math people can understand it. They also have a form called "Form Pi". And the site...is...easily readable with its black text on white background...and...stuff. I think I'll apply there too. THE END
