Snow and I are done professionally. We got another several inches today, presumably right on top of the ice sculpture my company had done in the shape of the new logo for the next generation of our big well-known product. I seriously could not fucking believe that they had it made in the first place--I keep wondering how many people they laid off to pay for it. It is so damned cold here. I am so over snow.

I had a really nice time at my volunteer reading thing yesterday, though. One of my kids had a book about the planets, and when he was done with it we looked at its copyright date (2002) and I told them about Pluto. I get that it wasn't that long ago and public schools are on a tight budget, but it would be pretty cool if they could get updated reading material sometimes. My other kid asked me if life on earth got started when people walking around in space discovered it and realized it was actually okay to live on (there were arm motions; it was totally cute), and I told her that even if she was being facetious, there was an entire scientific hypothesis based on exactly that idea, and I told them about spores and panspermia. Except I wasn't able to recall the exact term, which was probably just as well, as I can sort of imagine how a conversation with third-graders about something called "panspermia" would go. Then she asked a million more questions. My kids are so awesome.

Seeing Sherlock Holmes and finishing Good Omens in the same weekend was kind of like...you know how when you eat an entire jar of frosting in one sitting? Or, you know, a five-pound bag of sugar? And it's all great fun at the time, but then you feel strained and exhausted and jumpy and tense and kind of sick for days afterwards? Yeah, I was definitely suffering from hoyay overload.
