Nov. 22nd, 2003 05:18 pmSo today I went to Target, as is my custom. I was making my normal rounds of the media section when I noticed that all the CD towers had the same warning label: "Not to be used as a ladder". Does that mean people were trying to climb up the itty bitty CD case-sized rungs and falling out and suing Target, or were they stepping on the cases themselves and breaking their CDs?
Anyway, in the Christmas section they had these felt stockings that cost a dollar. They also had identical felt stockings that cost three dollars and included a little glitter glue pen to write your name. So I bought two of the sans-glitter-pen ones (one for me, one for
myrtlelarson) and figured we could use one of the pens from my crown-making kit. I also got a string of lights to supplement the ones Lauren got me for my birthday, and some snowflake window clings that are supposed to look like etched glass but don't, mostly because the windows are very dirty. One of the other sheets of window clings I was considering was more or less the same, but it also had text. It said things like "Let it snow" and "Snow day". Somehow it seemed almost perverse to put anything that said "Snow day" on my window when it's seventy degrees out. Actually, it seems kinda perverse to put anything that looks like snowflakes on the window when it's seventy degrees out...ah well.
The other thing I got at Target was one of their seasonal $5 t-shirts, which are out for Christmas now. It has a picture of a reindeer wearing a hat and scarf, and underneath it says "Vixen". Best. Class. Mascot. Ever. Only problem was, the shirt is bright green. This ceased to be a problem when I realized I didn't really care.
On another note, the recent gay marriage decision in Massachusetts has prompted a response in Minnesota that I find rather surprising. This article from Thursday's Pioneer Press says that the state legislature is gearing up to amend the constitution to remove any ambiguity surrounding the fact that gay marriage should not be in any way legal. In another article today, the governor was confirmed as a supporter of the amendment. This in itself did not surprise me hugely, because he's a Republican governor, and most of the other backers are Republicans as well. What did seem odd to me was that this would come up at all in a state that would not give up Paul Wellstone, one of the most liberal senators ever. The director of a major advocacy group for the gay community in Minnesota did say that they appeared to be "playing to an audience of people who think homosexuality is immoral and a sin...[but that is] not in sync with most of Minnesota." We'll see if she's right.
Must go now. The Cheesecake Factory awaits!
