I cleaned out my e-mail inbox today, and near the very bottom I found a cc of something I sent to my friends right after Order of the Phoenix came out: my meta-theory. Just thought I'd post it here for fun.

Hey, I was thinking about how OoP smacked constantly of fanfiction and how I swear JKR must have gotten some ideas (not plot points, just dialogue and character traits) from the fandom. If this trend continues, we should see even more evidence of theories and fanon in books 6 and 7. So I've predicted the turns the story will take by the last book. I'm probably right, of course, as usual, but you'll still want to read the book when it comes out, since she's clever sometimes, that author. Anyway...

[livejournal.com profile] flutingfrenzy's Theory:
So early in their seventh year, Harry and Ron secretly switch bodies, a la the James/Remus theory. Harry!Ron (Ron in Harry’s body) goes on to face Voldemort as a decoy while Ron!Harry (Harry in Ron’s body) runs away and hides, but not before Harry!Ron has a romance of some sort with Hermione, thereby potentially satisfying the R/H shippers, the H/H shippers, and the Farmer in the Dell theorists*. So Harry!Ron is killed by Voldemort, devastating Hermione so much that she attempts to go back in time fifty years in order to learn all she can about Tom Riddle and maybe try to stop him. Unfortunately, she only goes back twenty years, where she makes Snape forget all about Lily. They settle down and get married, of course, but around 1979, Hermione remembers what she set out to do in the first place and time-turns back the right number of years to be just a bit older than Tom Riddle. Snape is heartbroken and consequently becomes a Death Eater. When Hermione gets to the past, she finds that she can never get back, so she adopts the pseudonym Minerva McGonagall. Due to a well-placed Memory Charm, Hermione then forgets her real name and all the stuff that happened during her teenage years and short marriage, and is forced to live only as McGonagall for the rest of her life. Anyway, Harry!Ron is dead, and when Ron!Harry realizes this, he is very upset and decides to go back in time himself to set everything straight (by “everything” I have no idea to what exactly I am referring). Due to overexcitement and a resulting error in the time travel, he goes back over 130 years, where he somehow finds it necessary to be a stand-in of sorts for a young Albus Dumbledore. But during this time, Dumbledore either dies or goes missing, and it’s up to Ron!Harry to assume his identity. So he does, and grows up to become the Albus Dumbledore we all know and love. Naturally, Dumbledore!Ron!Harry would quite resemble Ron while seemingly being able to read Harry’s mind.

Still with me here? Good. Meanwhile, Sirius is reincarnated as an American exchange student who promptly becomes involved in a relationship with reinstated Defense Against the Dark Arts professor Remus Lupin. Obviously, she (because all American exchange students are female) is in seventh year, because StatutoryRapist!Remus tends to be squicky. Plus, upon being Sorted into Gryffindor, she could hang out with the Trio on a regular basis and amuse but awe them with her wacky shenanigans and eventually help in the final battle. But anyway, what starts off as a bit of Student/Teacher-With-Benefits matures into True Love. This is comforting to all those (myself included) who feel that Remus and Sirius are really the only ones who can truly and properly give each other what they need: a hug. Since this is Book 7 and all bets are off, this would also be a good opportunity for a Snape/Remus/Reincarnated!Sirius slash triangle. And now you know the rest of the story.

*A likes B, but B likes C, but C likes D… in this case, Ron likes Hermione likes Harry.

Tune in next time when I discuss the possibility of bandy-legged, ginger-haired Mundungus Fletcher being TimeTravel!Crookshanks.
