How To Be Profound
Apr. 14th, 2006 01:42 amI've discovered the secret to making any spoken word sound instantly profound.
My proof is unfortunately a bit lacking, since it turns out that trying to speak and play music into a cell phone simultaneously doesn't work very well. Just an FYI. But
octopedingenue and I just had the most fun last couple of hours attempting it. And I learned how to make a voice post.
I found this out some time ago, actually, but hadn't had the chance to test my theory until tonight: to give any kind of speech depth and poignance, no matter what it is, just play an instrumental version of "Bratja" from Fullmetal Alchemist (specifically Kyoudai, the harp and cello version) in the background. I am not making this up. That's a Yousendit link in that last sentence; if you don't already have the song, go download it and see for yourself. Read this post if you don't have anything else readily available. Or read the dictionary, like Kawcrow and I were doing. I find the most effective words are those with mystical but scientific connotation, in keeping with the spirit of FMA. Or the newspaper, or bad fanfiction, or class notes, or anything. I don't know if it's the way the music harmonizes with the human voice or what, but Kyoudai will give it meaning.
And even if you don't want to do that, download the song anyway. It's one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.
