Feb. 19th, 2010 06:12 pmWell,
thickets and
clodia_risa have been totally kicking my ass at Ace Attorney Investigations, but I finally finished the first case tonight! I'm going to post my reactions right now, since there are kind of a lot of them, and I don't know how long it's going to take me to finish the whole game.
----------------
Here I am, keeping my running commentary! Haven't done this in awhile, so let's hope it goes well.
Before we get started, I just want to say something that I've said before but bears repeating: I find it so wonderfully, deliciously apropos that Capcom needed to make a game about Edgeworth in order to incorporate Logic as a gameplay element. That is all.
I like this badass touchscreen background with the silhouettes. I keep wanting to stare at it, but nooo, the buttons keep covering it up.
Okay, I've already played the demo, so this opening cutscene is old information.
Eeee, tiny Edgeworth!
I am loving this music. LOVING it. I hope I can find it online; I direct-downloaded all my other Phoenix Wright music from that one website that's since closed.
"What's this smell...? It's very familiar..." DEATH? "Blood?" Oh.
I love that they're still using the Suspense theme from all the other games. Yay for unifying themes!
Strangely, when that guy showed up and pointed the gun at Edgeworth, I actually felt legitimately afraid for him. I know Edgeworth is narratively immune, but there was just something in his expression, or in the way they were standing...I don't know. But I bet there's some visual psychology explanation for my reaction.
Oh, Edgeworth's tiny pointy sprite is so cute!
Yaaaay, Gumshoe!
Haha, I love Gumshoe's foot-stamping sound effect. Adorable tiny little stampy Gumshoe!
When Edgeworth and Gumshoe are discussing Logic, I like to imagine that they're actually discussing logic. Like, lowercase. Consequently, when Edgeworth starts talking about the Logic Button, he sounds insane. "Now, to touch the Logic Button, and recall the facts." Hahahahaha.

"Conveniently located on my left temple!"
"I have to admit the desk has never looked better, so I guess I can't dock his pay." Edgeworth values the important things.
"Well, I don't know much about it myself..." Edgeworth, stop being ashamed of being a giant fanboy. HAHA Gumshoe totally calls him on it!
"As for my own worth, that is something only I can determine for myself." Man, I wish I had Edgeworth's confidence.
"Did I say 'contradiction'? He must be rubbing off on me. I'm starting to sound like him..." HEY EDGEWORTH, WHO'RE YOU TALKING ABOUT, HUH?
"Time to rationally and calmly play connect the dots with the information we have." I will be rationally and calmly talking like this from now on. "Time to rationally and calmly eat my spaghetti." "Time to rationally and calmly take my shower."
"It means you need to use your brain every once in a while instead of mine, Detective." That's cold, Edgeworth.
Ahaha. It wouldn't be a Phoenix Wright game if somebody's name weren't written in blood.
Maaaan, I love Edgeworth's Objection music. That theme can do no wrong. Except for that silly jazz arrangement, I guess. Why anyone would think it was a good idea to play a fanfare in swing tempo, I have no idea. So I guess it can do some wrong. I still listen to it all the time, though.
Dude, Portsman has an Objection sound file! Was not expecting that. He sounds like just as much of a douchebag as he looks.
I should make a Gumshoe Eyebrows icon out of one of these sprites. It would complement my other one nicely.
Well, it wouldn't be a Phoenix Wright game if Maggey Byrde weren't getting accused of murder.
"Trust me, pal, you don't want to test just how bad her luck is." It's funny 'cause it's true.
Dear Capcom: "However" is a conjunctive adverb, not a conjunction. When used to transition from one clause to another within a sentence, it requires a semicolon before and a comma after, or vice versa. The More You Know.
Aww, Edgeworth is trying to protect Gumshoe's feelings! So cute!
"'Friendship", Detective? I think you're mistaking it with 'pity'." That's really cold, Edgeworth.
D'awww, Edgeworth kind of ships Gumshoe and Maggey. ♥
I really do love Maggey's star eyes. I would totally be like that too if Edgeworth were promising to defend my good name.
GASP! Payne! Holy crap it's Payne!
Hahahaha I've just spent the past 30 or 40 seconds making Edgeworth walk through Gumshoe over and over again. Intangibleworth!
Hey hey, a reference to Manfred von Karma. I love continuity!
Dear Capcom: The word is "harebrained". The More You Know.
clodia_risa, you were totally right about it being weird when Maggey pops up on the right side of the screen with Portsman and then pops up on the left side of the screen with Edgeworth seconds later. She does look like a whack-a-mole.
DEAR CAPCOM: "EXERCISE REGIMENT"? SERIOUSLY? ENGLISH, PLEASE LEARN IT.
Guys, I have been spending this whole case thinking about how much I love the awesome button mapping. So intuitive!
"You know those sofas in the hallway? He likes to sleep on those." Buddy Faith: bum.
"I believe the proper phrase here is, 'you fail.'" Edgeworth spends so much more time on the internet than he lets on.
Ooh, wow, the end of this case is so intriguing. I'm so excited!
Excellent, we've made a triumphant return to the title screen background images for completed cases.
