Alphabet Meme

Comment on this entry and I will give you a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter in your journal, including an explanation what the word means to you and why, and than pass out letters to those who want to play along.
Bonnie--is my mom's name. I've never known anyone else personally who had the name Bonnie, so really, to me, nobody else is allowed to have it. Often when people know that our names are Bonnie and Diana, but not which one of us is which, they assume she's Diana and I'm Bonnie. I once asked her why that was, and she said it was because Bonnie was a little girl's name, and Diana was a grown woman's name. Even though I can kind of understand that now, I'm quite incapable of feeling that way myself, and imagine I always will be.
babies--My cousin and his wife just had one of these yesterday. My mom sent me pictures, and she is so cute and small and a baby. Also something I would like to have a few of someday. By which I mean I really, really want to. Actually, a few of us who work in the math center (I'll call the others X and Y, for fun) have been discussing this lately--X is starting grad school this summer, but she occasionally talks about how it's her ultimate fantasy to be a "kept woman". The reaction she tends to get to this is unsurprising. So yesterday at the department awards banquet, we were having this conversation again over pie. Rather than argue X's points, though, Y and I took the new route of coming up with things for her to do while being a kept woman. For example, she is allowed to have babies as her main interest in life, as long as she isn't one of those crazy women who thinks of nothing but getting pregnant and spends all her time on internet forums talking to other women who think of nothing but getting pregnant and sabotages her birth control. But otherwise, she should definitely have a hobby. The professor present at this conversation said that his hobby this summer was going to be poker, so that got Y and me talking about whether computer games were an acceptable full-time hobby. We concluded that MMORPGs were acceptable; things like Spider Solitaire were not. The conversation went on like this for awhile. Then today, X told Y and me that we had completely ruined her fantasy of being a kept woman. Anyway, back to the meme.
boobies--Mine are one of my favorite things about my own personal physical composition. I have an icon with them and everything. Also, last September at the end of Dragon*Con 2005,
octopedingenue and
riddering and I decided mostly facetiously that if we all went to Dragon*Con in 2006, we should have a panel on Straight Women Who Love Boobies. I think we'd been talking about Hawkeye, or something.
beer--Pilsner Urquell is my favorite. It's dirt cheap and really fucking tasty. One delicious treat that I actually haven't had lately is banana beer, which is about one part beer, one part banana nectar. No, really, it's surprisingly good.
Billeh--originally used by some people on Fandom Wank to refer to Billy Boyd, and appropriated by me for use in discussion during the fall semester of my junior year of the people
gweniveeve and
myrtlelarson would meet in Scotland. We decided that they would meet the men of their dreams, as well as the men of my and Kawy's dreams, and they would all come back to the US with them, and they would all be named Billeh. And they would be our Billehs. They didn't actually meet anyone named Billeh, unfortunately.
box--what I will probably be living in a few years from now. I won't even be able to afford the property tax on my box; I'll have to have a roommate. That is, aside from the alley cat I'll befriend, who will be named Havoc.
backlight--the thing in my computer that started going haywire while I was in Germany, causing me to have to turn the whole thing upside down and shake it every five seconds, especially while sitting in the lobby of the psychology building where I used the university wireless network. It got me a few funny looks.
ballet--what I took for ten years during my childhood, until the social situation got to be too stressful. I loved dancing, but I was SO UNPOPULAR there, and it just got to be no fun anymore. More recently, it's something I went to once last semester, and now the Atlanta Ballet calls me regularly to solicit money. I always tell them I'm a college student, and they seem to understand.
band--how I met my entire group of friends when I switched schools after tenth grade. Seriously, that is how it happened. I might never have gotten to know them otherwise. I don't think we were American Pie band geeks, even though it's possible that the Cool Kids saw us that way, but at any rate, I try not to play it up too much as part of my overall personality. Even though I kind of fail at that, considering my username. But I had already been using it for years when I started at that school. Check my userinfo; completely true!
braids--something I can make very fast, although I usually choose not to do them at all. But now that my hair is long again, longer than it's ever been, in fact, I certainly have the option.
