Wow, this post got long.
Apr. 20th, 2006 09:57 pmWell, as you know from my post last night, Death Note 106 is out, and the wank on the TOWNL forums (that's a locked board, but it has open membership, IIRC) is the thickest it's been since, uh, three chapters ago. The post in
death_eyes made it to clairvoyant_wank, but the commenters there have got nothing on the nutbars at the TOWNL forums.
If you've been following closely, you may remember that when chapter 103 came out, there was much fainting and capslock and denial. Mostly denial. It was painfully obvious to everybody that Light would make it out of there alive; the only question was how. Some people actually did predict what Light tried to do--that is, write Near's name on a piece of the notebook paper he had on his person--but the board was overwhelmingly in favor of some sympathizer helping him. And the favorite candidate for sympathizer was, of all people, MATSUDA. Because, you see, Matsuda occasionally questioned the Kira investigation. And by occasionally, I think I mean at most twice. So obviously, when he fell on his knees in sorrow and disbelief at Light's confession, it was a sign that he was still on Light's side! Yes, Matsuda would get him out of there. You know, past all those other people with guns and death notes. Clearly.
So that theory kind of got shot down this week. Here's what people had to say:
Mikami would never betray Light unless it was some secret indepth plot to help him.
hehe how could I miss the writing with severed finger part that is hillarious amuse...oh now I'm 90% sure it is fake unless the writer's gone mad.
i think if there is someone who will change sides to Kira , Matsuda is the first one. Matsuda is in love with Light sister remember ? making Light as his enemies would never make him get approved by Light to get to Light sister. but he'll get killed anyway even if Light win
[If Matsuda kills Light, Light will NEVER give his blessing to him and Sayu!]
This "spoiler" is the most hilarious one that I ever seen ... Matsuda shooting Light and killing him ? BWAHAHHAHAHAH if it's really what happens, I'll eat my shoes...
[NOTE: This person later made another post that said only "*eats her shoes*".]
What I'm really specting is that Light turns into a shinigami and wins, cause if he turns to a shinigami he will be inmortal and he could make the perfect kira's world
that vision is not really ludicrous... and Near got lucky- he didnt "stomp" him. I bet the world would be a better place if Kira made it out alive (Near dies) than Kira dying. If Kira dies the crime will go up and Near will be back to his old lifestyle not caring a thing. Remember Spiderman?( Some people called him a "menace" but when he was gone crime went up and people wanted him back.. in the movie at least. Spiderman didnt go around killing bad guys but he did capture them and would-be-criminals feared his presence. if spiderman dies (proving him not being "invincible") then they know they will only have the police to deal with and thats it.
[And here we have a lovely example of MISSING THE POINT of both Spider-Man and Death Note.]
damn u matsuda, at least have better aim and take light out of his misery!!! (but nuuu, i don't want him to die either!! ;_; *bangs head on table*)
[Just how much better could Matsuda's aim have been? Did you even see what he did?]
After the first several pages, people saned up a bit, although there was still quite a bit of wanking. Like this:
Light's DEAD! (fireworks) ...Ahem. I suppose we'll be getting a lot more people switching to the Anti-Kira side, now that Kira's done for. After all, it's human tendency that everyone wants to be on the winning side, eh? But we were right all along! We were right.
Random Person: Careful; the series isn't over yet. You might be swallowing your own words next week. Arrogancy's what did Light in, after all.
I'll risk it. 3 cheers for Ohba!
(dead silence)
Oh who needs ya. (thinks this occasion calls for some good old gloating and I-Told-You-So-ing)
Just in case you thought I was biased or something. Which I am, but that post was just pure wank. Anyway, I love reading the TOWNL forums, if by "reading" you mean "staring at the trainwreck that is". I mean, this is a place where people have sig banners that say "L Fanclub: I Hate Takada!" Think about how those two statements could be connected, and then ponder it for a minute just to let the full crazy sink in.
Oh, one more thing that I'd like to say outside the cut. When people express a desire to see Light create Kira's perfect world, it's frightening. I'm frightened. I know it's not real, and there is no death note, and Light doesn't even exist, but the idea that people think that what Light's doing is okay bothers me a lot. The Death Note world is just way too similar to the real world for it not to feel a little too close to home.
And now that I've said that, I want to close with the List of Things Light Should Not Have Done as an Evil Overlord.
1. I will not gloat over my enemies' predicament before killing them.
2. I will be secure in my superiority. Therefore, I will feel no need to prove it by leaving clues in the form of riddles or leaving my weaker enemies alive to show they pose no threat.
3. Despite its proven stress-relieving effect, I will not indulge in maniacal laughter. When so occupied, it's too easy to miss unexpected developments that a more attentive individual could adjust to accordingly.
4. I will maintain a realistic assessment of my strengths and weaknesses. Even though this takes some of the fun out of the job, at least I will never utter the line "No, this cannot be! I AM INVINCIBLE!!!" (After that, death is usually instantaneous.)
5. If I learn that a callow youth has begun a quest to destroy me, I will slay him while he is still a callow youth instead of waiting for him to mature.
6. If all the heroes are standing together around a strange device and begin to taunt me, I will pull out a conventional weapon instead of using my unstoppable superweapon on them.
7. I will not set myself up as a god. That perilous position is reserved for my trusted lieutenant.
And now, back to work.
