I went to see Oliver! with my family a few nights ago. It was actually very good, but I needed a little while to warm up to it. I always need time to warm up to musicals; in the beginning I'm always thinking about how completely ridiculous the whole concept of randomly breaking into song is, especially when the source material is something like Oliver Twist. Somehow I don't think that was exactly what Dickens had in mind. But, again, it was quite good. Fagin was dressed exactly like Johnny Depp in Pirates, except he wore red instead of black and had lighter hair. I didn't realize this almost until intermission, so it was hard to concentrate on the last several scenes of the first act--I kept having very confusing thoughts, which basically all boiled down to "Am I supposed to be sexually attracted to Fagin?"
