My icons don't have to suck anymore! (Whether they do anyway is a different matter entirely.)
As of very early this morning, I finally have a decent image editor in the form of the GIMP. So today, while everyone else was starting classes, I sat on my bed and played with my digital photos and FMA screencaps. At least I got some icons out of it.
And here they are.

It's so nice being able to save things as .gif files without screwing up the colors. This one is juuuust over 40k, which is very distressing, but not enough to make me fix it right at the moment.

This one's actually not all that great. I think the font is too thin. But the sentiment is well-meaning.

Okay, so this icon doesn't display much technical genius (other than my madd brightness and contrast adjusting skillz), but I did have a lot of fun with the picture, as you can see below.

If I'm going to be asbestos_love, might as well have an asbestos icon. Really happy with this one.

...but not nearly as happy as I am with this one. I was trying to think of text to go with it, but it looks fine as it is, and all my ideas were stupid anyway. Suggestions?
And then I made some colorbars. I'll just put them here, since I have no idea what the hell I'd do with them otherwise.

Yes, I am going to keep using this picture until all its possibilities have been exhausted. And yes, this is an extremely silly colorbar. I promise to go back to being the mature, serious 21-year-old you all remember soon. By the way, boobies are love.

Really, this is for
octopedingenue. Tomato + Potato = Love.
In conclusion, as I was just saying in
scottiegirlc's journal, WAAAH I WISH I WERE BACK IN GEORGIA. Home is good, and Germany will be too, but...gah...
Okay, no, must end on a good note. Let's see...
Ooh, ooh! Turns out there's a strange sort of pride in seeing untranslated yaoi manga scanned into a livejournal comment and instantly recognizing the characters. ("Hey, it's Kizuna! ...Okay, this has sooo not been released in English yet, because I would have remembered them doing that.") [mock grumpiness] I've said it before, and I'll say it again: First and last time I ever buy smut for a friend. [/mock grumpiness]
