Movie Musings: I just saw The Village

If you haven't seen this movie, I would recommend it. It's very good, plus you'll want to find out for yourself what happens before someone spoils you. Don't read under the cut, in other words. :)

It reminded me quite a bit of The Giver and The Truman Show, which are one of my favorite books and one of my favorite movies, respectively. Of course, in the case of The Truman Show, we knew what was happening the whole time. It was all very meta. That's why I think I'll like The Village more if I see it again. The thing I didn't really like was the lack of exposition--yeah, they explained enough, but I kinda wanted to know more about how the elders went about setting the whole thing up, and what exactly the people born in the village know about the outside world. And I would have liked to hear more about why they actually did this. I guess they were trying to create a society in which their families could be safe from the violence that other relatives of theirs died from, but how long were they planning on keeping it up? What would they tell the kids if they asked how anyone got through the woods to found the village in the first place? Stuff like that. Anyway, that's all I have to say for now.
