WALDO*CON 2011

...Also known as Dragon*Con. Man, there were so many Waldos. And a lot of really fantastic Snapes. And our Ace Attorney group! [livejournal.com profile] clodia_risa's friend Lauren was a terrific AAI Ema, [livejournal.com profile] clodia_risa had put together an intimidatingly good Kay costume, and [livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue was an AMAZING genderswapped Gumshoe ("Femshoe"). I was Mia, of course, and a pretty okay one if I do say so myself. The only other Ace Attorney cosplayers I saw all weekend were another Mia, actually, and the Diego who was with her. I wanted to stop and talk to them (and exchange costume tips with the Mia!), but we were going in opposite directions on a really crowded escalator. That's the problem with Dragon*Con; everything is so crowded. It was so damn hard to get pictures of anyone. I've been telling people that I have no regrets, but it occurs to me that I do regret never managing to flag down Shirtless Ed Elric. I never did end up taking pictures of anyone outside our group, since the only other one I really wanted to get was an awesome Dead Shuffle Jade, whom we unfortunately did not see again after running into her in the no-pictures-allowed Artists' Alley.

But yeah, there was other stuff to do besides people-watching and walking around in costume. I got a nice haul of anime: the second season of Haruhi Suzumiya (Endless Eight for the next Skype movie night: who's up for it???), the complete Princess Tutu and Gankutsuou, and Summer Wars, which I have been wanting to see for over a year now. I also got some giant microbe plushes: one for me, and one each for some tiny nerds of my acquaintance. The four-year-old who loves pink is getting swine flu, and the almost-two-year-old is getting earache, which I thought would be more appropriate than, say, syphilis. AND I got my face painted in Artists' Alley! It was totally gorgeous and worth it, and I managed to keep it on for over twelve hours. I'll put up a picture as soon as I get the photos off my camera.

Anyway, that's it for travel this year! Now to plan for next year, assuming for the moment that I am not minutes from being laid off. Right now I'm thinking about visiting [livejournal.com profile] clodia_risa at her new house, visiting Atlanta over Halloween, and visiting London sometime before the Olympics.
