The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Good: [livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue treated me to Waffle House.
Bad: She did it because I was sad.
Ugly: I was sad because the college has decided to cut the German major.

And not just the major, either. The whole fucking program. At the end of my junior year. So senior year, I'll be a German major at a college with no German program. I guess I'm lucky, really, because if all goes well I'll be able to complete the major by the end of junior year anyway, and there's not much chance the college will be getting rid of the math program--if for no other reason than losing the college's math department would get in the way of their goal of becoming Powderpuff Tech. Because really, that's the direction they're headed. (Agnes Scott College: the Science World for Women Who Don't Wanna Go to Tech 'cause It's a Boy School and the Girls There Are Mean.) They're focusing so much on the sciences that they seem to have forgotten their designation as a LIBERAL ARTS college.

So my parents have been drafted to write letters, and lots of them, to any person who might be an appropriate target for complaints. That was quite an interesting phone conversation: much flailing of arms and a teaspoon of anti-French sentiment. Fun for the whole family. I really, really hope nobody in the hall (because I was definitely being loud enough for the whole hall to hear) was offended; it was amusing bad enough yesterday when I was out shopping for the Faust Club Osterfest tomorrow and Michelle, who is not only a German major with family in Germany, but also the Faust Club president, said sarcastically, "oh, no, we don't need foreign languages, no, foreign languages are completely USELESS" and a passing woman turned and chastised her in a foreign language. Anyway, although everything always works out in the end*, at present it's horrible. I feel so betrayed. I feel a lot of things. Why do I only get to choose one mood?

*as [livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue now knows, things having worked out for her as I promised.
