Sci Fi Concert

So, that Star Trek/Star Wars/etcetera Minnesota Orchestra concert I went to? Yeah, that was pretty much the most awesome thing ever. Especially the part where the people sitting next to me saw me spill the last couple drops of my drink on the program of the person in front of me, switch programs while she wasn't looking, and then be replaced with a completely different person after intermission. Well, not that last part (although my mom did suggest it). Actually, the real awesomeness was, unfortunately, at the very beginning of the concert, when I got to hear Mars (from Holst's The Planets) performed live for the very first time. I recommend the experience to everybody. Here it is, in case you aren't familiar with it, although it's one of those pieces that most people do know, even if they don't know that they know it.

And, okay, surely if I can grasp how cool this is, any of you who have actually watched some original series Star Trek will appreciate that, before the concert, the skyway was lined with Tribbles. After the concert, THERE WERE MORE OF THEM. Or maybe I just wanted there to be more so much, that I imagined there had been fewer earlier. Whatever. I'll believe what I want.

George Takei pretty much embodied win, too. I tried to explain to my mom why his last name rhymes with "hay" and not "eye", but I don't think I did a good job, because she seemed to get the impression that it is actually supposed to rhyme with "squee". Which is fair.

My Computer

As I hinted in my last post, my computer is in need of repairs. So it's being shipped off to Kentucky right this very second for a new DVD lens. Last time, I sent it in needing a new wireless card and got it back with a brand-new motherboard that completely eliminated every software problem I had ever had, so this time I'm expecting something really spectacular, like maybe an automatic porn generator. This is why you always get the three-year service plan.

The upshot of this is that I won't have a computer for another couple weeks. Ever since my power cord decided to give up all pretense of not being a total fire hazard, I've been using the Wii internet browser a lot. So if I don't have much to say online, that's why. At the moment, I'm using my parents' computer, where I don't like to download or bookmark a lot of stuff or save passwords, so we'll see how that works out for me too.

Cobalt Blue

I had NO IDEA there was going to be a new DS color until this morning. If it looks anything like the picture I saw, the top is absolutely the most gorgeous shade of blue. Too bad I'm opposed to two-tone game systems in principle. And I love the white one I already own. And if I were going to get a two-tone DS, it would probably be the red one. Still. Completely gorgeous. So now I'm wondering what colors are next. Will they make a black-and-green one? Maybe blue and white? (Oh, that would be pretty.)

Super Bowl

I went to a Super Bowl party on Sunday. In preparation, I learned the names of the teams that were playing. When I got home, I actually discussed some of the more interesting plays with my dad. I think he was really pleased about that.

Simple Pleasures

My Death Note soundtrack is approximately the same length as my workday. It's so lovely to hear the song I started the day on and know it's almost time to go home.

Trauma Center

I abandoned Trauma Center: Second Opinion soon after I first bought it last year, having been distracted by Super Paper Mario (and then Deathly Hallows...and then Phoenix Wright...and then Guitar Hero and Mario Galaxy...) But then lately I started thinking that maybe I should at least try to finish the games I already own before buying more. As it turned out, all the trouble I was having with the operation in Trauma Center when I stopped playing it probably had a lot to do with my familiarity with the nunchuck. Now that I'm used to it from all that Mario Galaxy, it's no problem. I beat the game last night. But what I REALLY wanted to say here was that, okay. There's some overlap in the fandom with Phoenix Wright. It makes sense, because these are two games for the DS (Second Opinion is the Wii adaptation of the original, titled Under the Knife) that have similar concepts, similar visuals, are set in the same place (although the Los Angeles in Trauma Center is fictionalized), AT THE SAME POINT IN THE FUTURE (TC takes place in 2018, the same year as Trials & Tribulations). And I've seen people in Phoenix Wright fandom talk about how they want to see crossovers.

So now I kind of understand where those people are coming from. Specifically, I want Derek to save Phoenix's life by operating on him RIGHT THERE IN THE COURTROOM when Phoenix collapses from GUILT while defending Derek against accusations of malpractice! Phoenix is then transported to a nearby hospital for observation, from which he proceeds to win Derek an acquittal via closed-circuit television.

Afterwards, they have sex.

...Edgeworth can come too. Angie and Maya, meanwhile, are also busy getting "acquainted". I think I'll name their ship Ass, short for Assistant.

Tying it all together

Between geeky live concerts, the Death Note soundtrack as my constant background music, and my interest in connecting as many things to Phoenix Wright as I possibly can, I feel it is apropos to mention here that Court Records says there is going to be a live concert of the Phoenix Wright orchestral music. Good thing it's in Japan and not the US, or I would probably still be in an excitement-induced coma. I'm hoping for a live CD to get released (and torrented, since it's not like it would ever be sold here).
