It's unpaid, alas
Tonight
gweniveeve and
octopedingenue and I finally got off our asses and achieved our dream of shelving our pool of manga in the living room. Between the three of us, we have over 200 volumes of about 50 different series, including a lot of one-shots, but not including everything the two of them left at home, or duplicates in series that more than one of us owns.
Crackwhore Manga Library Facts
-The bookcases can hold a total of approximately 153 volumes of manga, or twice that if they're shelved two deep
-There are currently 130 volumes in the front of the bookcases; most of those in the back are either series we are unlikely to want to read often or in a language that not all of us can understand
-The exceptions to the language rule are the German version of Bus Gamer (which I bought because I was intrigued by the Saiyuki-AUness of the cover) and two volumes of Saiyuki Reload in Japanese
-During the inventory, 24 series were marked as those that their respective owners anticipate adding to within the next year
-Our copies of Death Note actually belong to
gweniveeve
-The only series all three of us own (and all continue to buy, in fact) is Fruits Basket
-In addition to the graphic novels, there is one actual novel--Fullmetal Alchemist: The Land of Sand
-The Inuyasha? All in the back
-Just like in the bookstore, the manga are arranged alphabetically by title (which was only problematic for Yami no Matsuei/Descendants of Darkness), but we managed to get all the volumes of each series on the same shelf
So, anyway, after
gweniveeve had gone to bed,
octopedingenue and I finished the shelving and then appointed an administrator for the collection. My official title is Manga Librarian, which is a position I intend to take extremely seriously. No, really. It's serious business. There will, in fact, be an official inventory and cataloguing system. I know it sounds ridiculous, but we know ourselves and each other, and everybody will be a lot happier if somebody is tracking things and keeping them in order.
So I get to do a lot of peering at numbers and grumbling every time someone puts something back in the wrong place. It's just like my real job! ♥
